Services, FELLOWSHIP, AND COMMITTEES WORKING FOR

JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AND SAVIOR

Together Circle

2007

A part of the United Methodist Women at Emmanuel is the Together Circle.  We are a group of women who meet on a monthly basis to share devotions, prayer, our business meeting, and "women only" fellowship".
Often we do projects for missions, work on needs of our church as Sunday School, and help in raising money to go toward the U. M. Women missions and special needs of the church or community.  We are a group of loving, caring women, who try to do God's work and share His Love.  Praise God for the warmth and love we have for one another!

United Methodist Women

2008

The Emmanuel United Methodist Women is a wonderful, devoted group of ladies who seek to serve the Lord.  Our main objective is to participate in mission projects, both near and far. When we hear the cry of the needy we respond with open hearts and love.

This past year has been on filled with much activity.  A "Day Apart", District Training sessions, UMW day at South Seaville Camp, School of Missions, the Neighborhood Center Tea and the Annual Meeting with in-gathering are a few of the things some of our ladies participated in.  Also, Barbara Wright attended the Jurisdictional meeting in Springfield, MA.

During the year, we accomplished two goals.  We received a 5 Star Unit certificate signifying full participation in the mission giving goals.  We reached for the first time the Silver Level for Mission Today.  We were pleased to have done these.

Every meeting of the year is special with our business meeting, prayer, devotional programs, and fellowship.  This year we had an extra-special program with guest speaker.  Mary Rhubart shared her original songs and testimony during our June dinner program with invited guests from seven Churches in the community.  What a blessing!

This October five ladies went to the Camden Neighborhood Center and helped serve lunch to the needy of the surrounding area.  We also went on a tour of the facility and met with precious small children in the Day Care Program.  We all felt very blessed in our own lives when we returned home.

What would Emmanuel do without our U.M.W.?  We are blessed to share in this group of Christian sisters with God as our Leader!!

Respectfully submitted,
Bebe Myers, President

2007
We have had another great year.  This unit is a group of very dedicated women by their attendance at our meetings, by their financial giving to missions, and through the program each month that comes from the UMW Program Book or Response Magazine.  We also use the Prayer Calendar each month to pray and correspond with selected missionaries.
During the year, we have attended Day Apart at Salem Broadway UMC, Day of Training at Schalick High School, Neighborhood Tea at First UMC in Millville, School of Missions, Women's Day at South Seaville Camp,  and the Annual Fall Meeting and Ingathering at Ranch Hope, as well as the Annual Meeting of the Greater N. J. Conference UMW held in the new Pitman U. M. C.
At  the Neighborhood Tea in Millville, we were awarded a "Five Star Unit" certificate for the year 2006, from the Conference UMW, for meeting the mission pledge, a special mission recognition, a gift to mission, a gift in memory, and a World Thank Offering gift from our budget.  We were also recognized at the Annual Fall Meeting for reaching the Bronze Level for Mission Today.

    NOW TEAM

    (Nurture-Outreach-Witness)

Janet Vinyard continues to have the responsibility of leading us in Witness.  She has been very faithful in sending cards to shut-ins, those who are inactive in our membership, and also those persons who are good possibilities to become members of our Congregation.  She also sends cards to shut-ins on their Birthdays and Holidays.  Along with sending cards, Janet also makes it a point to visit the sick and shut-ins whenever possible.  Janet, thank you for representing our Church in this very important way.

Edith Leap serves as our "Outreach" person.  On most Thursday mornings, you can find Edie at Merion Gardens helping to lead the people there in Prayer and fellowship.  Edie, many thanks for being so faithful in this part of our "Outreach".

I am serving as the "Nurture" person.  One of the most significant activities is that of organizing the "Prayer Chain".  Our Prayer Chain continues to be very active as we honor each request that is received.  At the present time, there are twenty-five (25) active members of our chain.  The Prayer Chain is a very important part of our Prayer Life.

Our members and Friends were given Lenten Prayer Booklets and Advent Booklets again this year to help in our celebration of these Holy Days.  The Upper Room is also made available to everyone who wishes to use it.

Some of us also attended a combined Ash Wednesday Service at St. Paul's Methodist Church and combined Lenten Services that were held at Pedricktown Baptist Church.

    In Christian Love,

    Carmella D. Sickler

  •     Emmanuel's Adult Fellowship

     2008

The Adult Fellowship group is the group that "lets our hair down" and enjoys Christian fellowship with one another.

Our planning group is comprised of leaderships from Emmanuel and also St. Paul's UMC, who joined with us several years ago.  We extend and invitation to any adult and when appropriate, children, who seek to share in the wonderful fellowship.

At Christmas 2007, our group had dinner at Longwood Gardens and enjoyed the Christmas displays of lights and decorations.  In the spring, we traveled to Living Waters in Lancaster, PA to see Abraham and Sarah followed by dinner at Millers.  Also a large group of fans attended a Philies game in the spring.

Every two year, our group plans a Retreat in November at Bird in Hand, PA.  Approximately 35 adults are ready to share in the heart warming weekend with Rev. David Bailey and his wife, Eileen, as our leaders.

Emmanuel church is a small group of caring, sharing Christians who desire to worship and serve our Lord.  Through our fellowship we serve the Lord with fun and laughter and bring the bright side to all we do.  This is a special bonus!

Thanks be to God.  We love all of our brothers and sister.  May God Bless our group with new and refreshing ideas in the upcoming year.

    Respectfully submitted in joy,

    Bebe Meyers, Leader

    2007

Committee was established about thirty years ago and was meant to profile adults in our church and community with Christian fellowship and events.

Each year we try to provide a variety of activities to interest our adults and once in a while, when appropriate for the children.  Our activities include dinners, concerts, Christian musicals and plays, holiday events, and Christmas caroling to name a few.  Also, every other year, we have a Retreat at Bird in Hand, most recently, with Rev. David Bailey as our leader.  This is an uplifting week-end for all who attend.
Our People in Emmanuel are a loving, Christian family, who only become closer by sharing in these outside activities.
The last few years, some members of the St. Paul's UMC have joined our Committee to help organize our activities and join us on a regular basis for Christian fellowship.  This has spread our Christian love even further than our own "four walls".
God has blessed us over the years in many ways...in our worship and our fellowship with one another

        Christian fellowship is WONDERFUL!!!!!!

Worship Committee

The Worship Committee is the backbone of each Sunday's Morning Worship Service.  Pastor Ayn is the heart.  We are lucky to have such a strong "body" at Emmanuel.  Our Faithful Committee members are:

Head Usher - Fred Raine

Organist - Neal Caldwell

Bulletins - Barbara Wright

Communion - Margie Ruesswick and Miriam Hayes

Special Decorations - Margie Ruesswick and Miriam Hayes

Flowers - Joanne Pidgeon

Greeters - Miriam Hayes

Pastor - Ayn Masker

We thank all those who put flowers on the altar each Sunday, poinsettias at Christmas and flowers at Easter in memory or in honor of loved ones.  They add so much to the worship service.

A few new pieces to our Morning Worship Service: a lay person gives the announcements, the Lay Leader reads the scripture lesson and a chorale will sing on Laity Sunday and hopeful become a regular addition.

Last December, in conjunction with the PG-CP Historical Society Christmas Tour, we had a display of creches (mangers) in our sanctuary.  This was so well received, we are planning to repeat it this December.  If you have a creche you would like to share with us, please let us know.

Last, but not least, we are so fortunate to have a Pastor who never fails to give us a meaningful, inspiring sermon.

Respectfully submitted,

Miriam Hayes and

Margie Ruesswick

Worship Committee Co-Chairmen

EDUCATION

(Sunday School)

We are very fortunate to have a wonderful, dedicated staff who love children.  The only problem we have is the lack of students.  Every year we lament the fact that we have a small group of children.  However, the ones we have are very special to us, and we thank God for them and pray that next year will bring us more.

The Adult Class was faithfully attended by a group of eight.  Their lessons were very thought provoking and the class began each Sunday with praise songs.  The music added a whole new dimension to the class.  They have not resumed yet this Fall.

I want to thank Eileen Seddon, Margie Ruesswick and Beb Myers for their commitment to the children and Bob Hayes and Ken Garner for their commitment to the adult class.

Respectfully submitted,

Miriam Hayes, Chairman
